Senior Network Engineer

Classification:  Full-Time, Exempt
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and other hours as needed
Location: Topeka, KS
Job Summary   
The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for the day-to-day IT operational support for existing network environments. The Senior Network Engineer will design, implement and troubleshoot technology related problems including routing, intermittent packet loss, latency issues, system connectivity and equipment failure.

Essential Job Functions​
  • Establishes network by evaluating network performance issues including availability, utilization, throughput, and latency; planning and executing the selection, installation, configuration, and testing of equipment; defining network policies and procedures; establishing connections and firewalls
  • Maintains network performance by performing network monitoring and analysis, and performance tuning; troubleshooting network problems; escalating problems to vendor
  • Secures network by developing network access, monitoring, control, and evaluation; maintaining documentation
  • Oversees new and existing equipment, hardware, and software upgrades relating to network, video, or VoIP equipment
  • Upgrades network by conferring with vendors; developing, testing, evaluating, and installing enhancements
  • Meets financial requirements by submitting information for budgets; monitoring expenses
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations
  • Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential
  • Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments
  • Achieve and maintain general knowledge of all aspects of the bank and its services in order to create add on sales opportunities and answer customer questions
  • Conduct all interactions with internal and external customers in accordance with The CoreFirst Way (the Bank’s customer service commitments and experience expectations that guide our interaction with every customer)
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • CCNA Preferred or the ability to achieve within six (6) months of hire date required
  • Six (6) years of experience supporting network operations, including:
    • Installing and testing network equipment
    • Performing network trouble-shooting
    • Supporting and optimizing network equipment
    • Implementing network security protocols
    • Maintaining network communications links
  • Two (2) years of experience as a technical team leader of infrastructure support staff.  Experience should include:
    • Planning work, controlling projects, and reporting progress
    • Preparing technical specifications for deliverables
    • Guiding and monitoring the work of staff developing deliverables
    • Developing work standards and evaluating performance
    • Reviewing team products to assure quality before delivery
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science preferred or equivalent experience

Must demonstrate effective oral and interpersonal communication skills and perform presentations well in front of small and large groups.  Courtesy, customer service, and tact are essential elements of the job. Must be able to handle confidential information appropriately. Ability to relate to and empathize with other people.

Physical Requirements
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.  The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, and walk.  Some light physical effort required including ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds.

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some local evening and weekend travel may be expected.  Branch Network Personal Bankers may travel to outer market locations occasionally, but overnight stays are not expected.

Work Environment    
This job operates in a professional office environment.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copy machines, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
