Pet Groomer (Independent Contractor)

Primary Accountabilities:
An Independent Contractor opportunity for a Pet Groomer. The Groomer is responsible for the pets in the care of Tender Loving Care Pet Nursing Hotel (“TLC”) as it relates to grooming guidelines and excellent customer service. The Pet Groomer will perform basic grooming services such as but not limited to bathing, brushing as well as trimming of the dog’s hair and nails.

General Duties:
  • Performs basic grooming services on dogs such as, but not limited to brushing, bathing, teeth cleaning, haircutting, trimming nails, clipping pads, clipping groin/belly and hair around the dog’s eyes as well as the expression of the dog’s anal glands.
  • Documents and assesses the animals appointment.
  • Administers grooming guidelines as requested by the client according to pattern, use of electric clippers, comb and/or barber shears. 
  • Lifts and places the dog on the grooming table.  Follows safety guidelines and fits the grooming collar on the dog.
  • Works in conjunction with the Veterinary Technicians, Kennel Assistants, and other TLC professionals, to administer an overall plan.
  • Provides calming techniques for the dog while administering the grooming procedures.
  • Delivers outstanding customer service, including greeting and receiving pet parents and pets in a professional, caring and courteous manner, promptly answering phone calls, responding to clients, co-workers, and medical staff needs and requests, redirecting calls.
  • Assists and cooperatively works with all office/sales staff.
  • Assists with keeping linens clean and tidy between sessions.
  • Restrains and handles pets and/or assists with pet restraint and handling.
  • Adheres to the safety and infection control policies and procedure manual; and responsible developing/modifying and training.
  • Contacts Veterinary Technician, on-call Veterinarian and pet parent in situations that warrant escalation.
  • Follows TLC policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Two (2) years or more of experience performing similar duties.
  • Prior experience working in a veterinary clinic, pet store or doggie daycare, preferred.
  • Strong sense of empathy, focus and concentration for the patient and client.
  • Organized and efficient team member that can easily multi-task.
  • Ability to use standard office equipment, such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment with a strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated high energy and a positive attitude while being professional and efficient.
  • Desire to continue learning and expanding holistic options for TLC and our patients.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally through both verbal and written skills.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across all levels of TLC.
  • Ability to “read” an animal and make judgment calls about therapy and care.
  • Ability to act calmly under stress and strain, and of not being hasty or impetuous. 
  • Ability to multi-task effectively with attention to detail and quality.
  • Demonstrated high energy and a positive attitude while being professional and efficient. 
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally through both verbal and written skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in team settings.
  • Ability to effectively deal with both internal and external customers.

Physical Demands:
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, reach and use hands for extended periods of time.
  • Performing physical activities which requires considerable use of your arms and handling of materials and/or animals.
  • Ability to read computer screens, e-mail and mail, talk on the phone.
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends
  • Ability to handle animals weighing up to one hundred fifty (150) pounds.
Work Environment:
  • Ability to work varying shifts.
  • Ability to interact with staff, pets and pet owners.
