Salary: $55,000-$65,000

Primary Accountability (Job Purpose):
The Accounting Manager will play an integral role in managing accounting efforts and ensuring smooth day to day administrative activity occurs within the office. This position will have sharp attention to detail and experience with accounting and office software/ERP systems.

Salisbury Supply Company, established in 1944, is a leading distributor of construction and industrial supplies based in Topeka, Kansas. We are looking for an experienced Accounting Manager with a solid accounting and administrative background to join our growing team. Strong Internet, Microsoft Office, and QuickBooks Payroll skills is preferred.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Prepares, examines, or analyzes accounting records, financial statements, or other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards through the company ERP system.
  • Oversees and assists data entry of vendor and other expense invoices and payment processing.
  • Maintains chart of accounts and assigns entries to proper accounts.
  • Oversees and assists with daily sales and cash reports, cash receipts and bank deposits.
  • Maintains orderly and complete electronic and hardcopy filing system.
  • Processes bi-weekly payroll and quarterly commission payments, payroll tax payments, and quarterly and annual reporting in a timely manner.
  • Prepares and posts journal entries to ledgers.
  • Balances books and completes periodic reports on expenditures, receivables, and payables.
  • Conducts monthly reconciliation of all bank accounts.
  • Prepares sales tax, workers comp and other reports.
  • Monitors vendor statements for outstanding invoices and credits.
  • Ensures that receivables are collected promptly.
  • Maintains petty cash fund.
  • Provides special reports for management as requested.
  • Issues financial statements.
  • Provides information to the external auditors for the annual review.
  • Provides clerical and administrative support to management as requested.
  • Purchases supplies and equipment as authorized by management.
  • Supervises small accounting support staff.
  • Assists with new employee onboarding and maintains employee records.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
  • Minimum of two (2) year associate degree in Accounting/Bookkeeping, Business, or Finance is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and solve problems.
  • Experience in problem analysis.
  • Ability to complete information collection and monitoring.
  • Detail oriented with a high degree of accuracy and thoroughness.
  • Ability to multi-task, work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong planning and organizing skills.
  • Computer experience including Microsoft Office Software and QuickBooks Payroll.
  • Ability to demonstrate a personality which is pleasant, cooperative and mature.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, present information and respond to questions, both in a written and verbal manner.
  • Ability to work independently and in team settings.
  • Self-motivated and interested in working with other people, as well as maintaining a good team attitude.
Physical Demands:
  • Ability to sit or extended periods of time.
  • Ability to stand, lift, carry, push, pull, balance, stoop, reach, handle, talk, hear, see, grasp, move head and neck and movement across mid-line.
  • Ability to lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to ten (10) pounds.
  • Finger dexterity, manual dexterity, alertness, precision, motor coordination, auditory discrimination and tactile discrimination.
Work Environment:
  • Professional and deadline-oriented environment in an office setting. The noise level is typically moderate.
