Salary: $100,000/annual, as based on experience
Location: Manhattan, KS (Option for Hybrid)
Role Summary
The Executive Director (ED) provides strategic leadership and executive oversight for the Kansas Guardianship Program (KGP). This role is responsible for maintaining alignment between the organization's mission and operations, ensuring sound financial stewardship, leading payroll and financial approval processes, and maintaining strong relationships with the Board of Directors, state agencies, and community partners. The Executive Director directly supervises the Assistant Executive Director, Office Manager, and Administrative Assistant.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategic Direction
- Lead the organization's strategic direction and long-range planning in collaboration with the Board of Directors.
- Represent KGP before legislative bodies, agency partners, and public forums to promote funding, awareness, and policy alignment.
- Serve as the primary liaison to the Board, preparing board materials, supporting board engagement, and maintaining transparency regarding program goals and challenges.
- Ensure organizational alignment with National Guardianship Association Standards and applicable Kansas statutes.
- Approve major organizational initiatives, vendor selections, and policy changes.
- Review and approve public communications, educational materials, and key stakeholder documents to ensure consistency with KGP's mission and standards.
Fiscal Oversight & Compliance
- Oversee the development and monitoring of the annual operating budget, including grant funding and state reimbursements.
- Review and approve financial transactions related to stipends, reimbursements, accounts payable, and payroll.
- Maintain overall responsibility for timely payroll processing and compliance with applicable regulations.
- Ensure timely reconciliation of financial activities and submission of documentation required for audits, reporting, and compliance purposes.
- Approve budget forecasts, resource allocation decisions, and long-term fiscal planning efforts.
Supervision & Organizational Governance
- Directly supervise the Assistant Executive Director, Office Manager, and Administrative Assistant, ensuring alignment across organizational operations and administration.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, feedback, and coordination to management staff.
- Make final decisions regarding hiring, onboarding, performance management, and disciplinary actions for direct reports.
- Approve job descriptions, organizational structure changes, and major personnel transitions in collaboration with key stakeholders.
- Monitor organizational workflows and daily operations as needed during the Assistant Executive Director's absence.
Program Oversight & Risk Management
- Provide executive-level guidance on complex guardianship, conservatorship, and risk management matters.
- Maintain oversight of organizational workflows, systems, and program outcomes, while delegating day-to-day monitoring to the Assistant Executive Director.
- Ensure policies, procedures, and documentation systems remain current, legally compliant, and aligned with organizational objectives.
- Support resolution of issues involving volunteer documentation, stipend eligibility, and compliance concerns in partnership with administrative and recruitment staff.
Minimum Qualifications
- Five (5) or more years of leadership experience in nonprofit, public sector, or human services organizations.
- Experience supervising employees and overseeing organizational operations.
- Strong budgeting, financial management, and compliance expertise.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and make independent executive-level decisions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Seven (7) to ten (10) years of executive leadership experience in a nonprofit or public service organization.
- Knowledge of guardianship services, legal oversight, or programs serving vulnerable populations.
- Experience working with and reporting to a Board of Directors.
- Proven success leading organizational change initiatives and operational improvements.
- Strong project management, strategic planning, and organizational development skills.
