JOB SUMMARY
Schendel Lawn & Landscape is looking for an experienced, driven Branch Manager to lead our Lawrence office.
The Branch Manager position is a vitally important role within the organization that comes with a large amount of responsibility not only as a manager but also as an ambassador. This role necessitates the need to communicate and understand all aspects of business—production, sales, management, customer experience, and finance. The Branch manager sets the tone for the entire branch and is a key contributor to cultivating a winning culture through the embodiment of our core values and in providing our customers with the best experience possible.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Personnel/Administrative
- Work in conjunction with SLL General Manager and Production Managers to ensure branch is adequately staffed.
- Listen to co-workers and staff; provide timely answers to co-worker questions and pass along valuable information to management when needed.
- Hire, train, and terminate co-workers using company values and clearly communicated expectations as a guideline. Provide coaching and support where needed.
- Provide HR direction through explanation of benefits, ensuring correct paperwork is given and returned on time, scan/deliver paperwork, and coordinate times for special meetings.
- Perform regular performance reviews for Production Managers and confirm reviews are done for all other staff within the Lawrence Branch.
- Work with Production Managers to oversee day-to-day activities, ensuring we are working efficiently and obtaining our profit goals. Outline responsibilities, goals, expectations, train, and follow-up.
- Achieve all budgeted metrics. Discuss monthly revenue and profit goals with Production Managers and review regularly to ensure branch is on track to hit monthly and annual goals.
- Allocate Lawrence division expenses such as bonuses, equipment, and tools to the proper Lawrence GL accounts.
- Review jobs and services weekly to ensure we are hitting budgeted profit per department.
- Ensure company safety procedures are implemented and followed.
- Monitor Production Managers tickets and calendars in Clypboard.
- Ensure all end-of-month to-dos are completed on time.
- Schedule and monitor snow events; communicate with customers when needed.
- Create and maintain quality control throughout the branch.
- Review, solve, and/or correct billing issues and answer questions.
- Track and turn in all purchases/receipts to General Manager for review biweekly.
- Complete the renewal process for all of Lawrence properties.
- Communicate with 3rd party contractors and subs.
- Perform all personal payroll and human resources functions as required in the Paycom system, including but not limited to tracking of time worked, paid time off requests, insurance enrollment and changes, updating of home address and banking information as needed, and viewing of training videos.
- Attend all required production meetings, safety meetings, trainings, performance reviews/evaluations, and other mandatory meetings.
- Oversee maintenance/service program for all equipment (trucks/trailers/equipment etc.)
- Maintain cleanliness throughout the Lawrence branch (offices/trucks/yard)
- Check in with Mechanic and make sure equipment is in good working standards.
- Oversee inventory of equipment and supplies to ensure we have what we need and are getting the best price.
- Communicate with customers to answer questions and resolve complaints and concerns.
- Work with crew supervisors as needed to troubleshoot and solve customer issues
- Display high level of urgency in all customer facing matters.
- Field and provide solutions to answering service evening and weekend emergency calls
- Teach and provide excellent customer service.
- Ensure Production Managers handle customer issues/requests in a timely manner (same day or morning the next day callback). Implement corrective action when warranted.
- Create increased focus on customer retention by performing five property/project audits per week and hold each Production Manager accountable for the same. Review these audits with the Production Managers weekly.

- Education: High school diploma or GED
- Experience: 3-5 years of lawn or landscape experience and management experience
- Valid driver’s license without any major infractions within 3-5 years
- Ability and desire to lead, motivate, and coach co-workers
- Ability and desire to communicate and interact with customers on a daily basis
- Demonstrate an extensive knowledge of landscape and/or hardscape installation, mowing, lawn care, and irrigation systems
- Ability to use landscaping and irrigation tools and equipment, including small construction equipment
- Ability and desire to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions
- Ability to project a professional image appropriate to the work environment and job responsibilities.
- Ability to push, pull, and lift up to 85 pounds
- Ability to regularly stand, kneel or stoop for prolonged periods of time
- Ability to do basic math calculations and measurements
- Ability to learn and become proficient in company software, including Clypboard, Paycom, and Microsoft Office
- Ability to speak English required; ability to speak Spanish is a plus
- Push, pull, and lift up to 85 pounds.
