Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, some evening and weekend hours
Reporting Relationship: Chair of the Management Committee and the Strategic Coordinator for Momentum 2022
Primary Accountabilities:
The Community Engagement Coordinator will be primarily responsible for both convening community members for monthly community meetings as well as convening identifiable stakeholders for the accomplishment of specific Momentum 2022 objectives that are assigned to Heartland Visioning. The successful candidate will coordinate and work closely with volunteers and Work Groups to meet goals as they relate to our community’s quality of life and quality of place.
Major Duties:
  • Recruits, maintains, engages, and excites a core group of diverse community members.
  • Holds monthly community meeting, scheduling and preparing speakers to present on matters of interest to the community.
  • Convenes stakeholders specific to the implementation of projects outlined in the Momentum 2022 strategy at separate and distinct meetings.
  • Drives the strategy by ensuring that the initiatives assigned to Heartland Visioning in the Momentum 2022 plan are being properly addressed during stakeholder meetings.
  • Cultivates strategic relationships at every opportunity.
  • Communicates progress to implementation partners, stakeholders and the community at large on a regular basis.
  • Promotes diversity within Topeka & Shawnee County.
  • Updates all marketing collateral as successes are met.
  • Strategizes ways for the community to celebrate success and bolster pride among various projects within the partnership.
  • Assists in other areas as necessary, and carries out other assignments as may be directed.
  • Manages and directs volunteer groups as necessary to carry out Momentum 2022 objectives assigned to Heartland Visioning.
  • Represents Heartland Visioning at public, governmental and business events.
Required Qualifications:
  • High school diploma, or equivalent. College education preferred, but not required.
  • A background in community, leadership, organizational and/or economic development (preference is a minimum of five (5) years).
  • An understanding of the Topeka & Shawnee County community.
  • A strong ability to develop relationships and convene people across all boundaries.
  • A proven record of leadership.
  • Excellent group facilitation skills and public speaking skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership and management skills.
  • Excellent project management skills from project initiation to execution.
  • Results focused with the ability to develop and execute strategic plans (metric driven).
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with staff, the business community and business prospects.
  • Ability to work efficiently with attention to details and quality of work produced.
  • Ability to work both independently and on diverse and dynamic teams.
  • Strong computer and word processing skills; particularly Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in setting priorities and organization of work load.
Physical Demands:
  • Ability to stand and walk frequently.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to read computer screens and mail, email, talk on the phone.
  • Ability to unpack and move supplies up to thirty (30) lbs.
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends and attend events as required.
