Primary Accountabilities:
The Dentist Instructor will be responsible for the diagnostic examination of all patients in order to confirm and/or modify the dental hygiene assessment and dental radiographic need and will prescribe medicaments to patients as needed. The Dentist Instructor is also responsible for leading and directing students toward their educational objective of satisfactory completion of an associate degree and licensure to practice as a dental hygienist.

Major Duties:
  • Demonstrates a thorough and accurate knowledge of the field or discipline and displays an ability to interpret and evaluate theories.
  • Connects subject matter with related fields and remains current in subject matter.
  • Maintains current certifications as appropriate.
  • Works constantly to instill in students the technical and academic competencies and employment behavior expected within the field of dentistry.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitation of location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individual or student groups involved.
  • Develops and maintains a clinic environment conducive to effective learning with the limits of the resources provided.
  • Develops and enforces appropriate rules and expectations of students in the clinic setting that are in compliance with Manhattan Area Technical College (“MATC”) policies/procedures and that result in a safe, effective learning environment.
  • Conducts assigned sessions in a professional manner.
  • Effectively administers assessment of student learning and technical objectives.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law and administrative guidelines.
  • Ensures that safe and reasonable precautions are implemented to protect students, equipment, and facilities.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings, college committees, and MATC activities as requested.
  • Participates in professional development opportunities both within and outside MATC.
  • Communicates effectively with staff, students, and the public the mission and operation of MATC and the specific program.
  • Cooperates with other members of the MATC staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
  • Assists in the selection of resource materials and equipment and makes facility improvement recommendations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Dental Hygiene.


Qualifications:
  • Kansas Licensed Dentist or eligible for licensure in Kansas required.
  • D.D.S. or D.M.D. required.
  • Certified in CPR and BLS for the Healthcare Provider required.
  • Five (5) or more years of work experience in a clinical practice as a dentist preferred.
  • Membership in professional organizations preferred.
  • Hepatitis B Vaccination.
  • Strong computer and word processing skills.
  • Strong organization skills with ability to multiā€task and be detail oriented.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including public speaking and ability to present MATC in a positive way.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally through both verbal and written skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with students, staff, and faculty.
  • Display a student-centered approach.
  • Willingness to reinforce all lecture lessons with hands-on experiences when resources permit.
  • Willingness to expand program to meet regional needs.
  • Consistently demonstrate the highest levels of integrity and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information and situations.


Physical Demands:
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to read computer screens and mail, email, talk on the phone.
  • Ability to unpack and move supplies up to twenty-five (25) lbs.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and mouse.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and attend events as required.

  • Interaction with students, staff and guests.
