Job Overview:
The Compliance Consultant conducts compliance verification consultations for trailer manufacturers to verify members have the manufacturing processes in place to manufacture trailers in compliance with the National Association of Trailer Manufacturers (hereinafter “NATM”) Guidelines.  This position also has the responsibility of assisting members in correcting any compliance deficiencies.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Schedules and performs on-site visits to member companies (trailer manufacturers) throughout the United States and Canada to inspect products and processes for compliance with all applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards and industry practices as detailed in the NATM Guidelines.  Remuneration is not related to the number of consultations or the outcome of the consultations.
  • Completes all consultation reports and documentation in accordance with NATM policies and procedures. Provides NATM Headquarters with copies of all reports for the member’s compliance file.
  • Follows-up on any non-compliance issues, coordinating technical questions with the Technical Director as necessary.  Reviews all documentation of the corrective actions to verify compliance.  Prepares and provides members a letter of compliance.  Promotes use of “Compliance” decals.
  • Follows-up on all consultations when corrective action has not been submitted within the time frames prescribed by NATM’s Compliance Procedure.  Assists members with questions on compliance issues and encourages corrective actions necessary for compliance.
  • Schedules consultations as assigned.
  • Reviews and keeps current on new laws and regulations affecting the industry.
  • Attends educational seminars, workshops and conventions related to the trailer industry.
  • Provides accurate weekly, monthly, and quarterly compliance updates to the Executive Director, and Technical Director so they may prepare reports for the Board of Directors.
  • Acts as Technical Manager as outlined in ISO 17020:2012 and as such, has the authority to sign off on compliance consultations.
  • Perform all additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by Management.
   
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
  • Associate’s Degree in Engineering, Business or a related field from an accredited college or university; and/or
  • Four years of related experience; OR
  • Any equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible experience, with additional work experience substituting for the required education on a year for year basis.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Computer skills including knowledge of database, Internet and Microsoft Office Software including PowerPoint, Excel, Word Processing, Outlook, and Access.
