Job Summary:  
The Machine Shop Supervisor is responsible for directing and managing machine shop operations which includes production, maintenance, quality and other machine shop related activities.
Essential Job Functions include, but not limited to: 
  • Address deviations in performance with employees.
  • Provide input to management on improvement of performance and processes to provide consistency.
  • Addresses policy and procedure violations with employees.
  • Addresses rework issues and machinery maintenance needs.
  • Promotes teamwork among employees.
  • Determines training needs to improve employee performance.
  • Administers performance reviews and makes recommendations for pay increases.
  • Organizes and supervises the staging of parts according to priorities or schedules of work centers.
  • Submits purchase requisitions for shop supplies and tooling.
  • Reviews time standards with employees and works with production planner to suggest improvements.
  • Responsible for proper entries of shop documents including time tickets, production orders, material issue sheets and time keeping records.
  • Ensures work is performed according to current drawings and instructions.
  • Ensures shop is organized and free of safety hazards.
  • Provides instructions to employees on proper machine maintenance and ensures work areas are clean, safe, organized and well maintained.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications: 
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required; some college preferred.
  • Five (5) years machinist experience with progressive responsibilities in a manufacturing environment is required.
  • Knowledge of machines, tooling, work processes and procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret blue prints.
  • Knowledge of NC programs.
  • Basic computer knowledge including familiarity with Microsoft Office programs and EdgeCAM or equivalent CAM software.
  • SAP experience preferred.
  • Ability to read blueprints and engineering drawings.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where customer rebuild manufacturing and limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, present information and answer questions clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing, with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to analyze data or information by identifying the underlying principles, reasons or facts of information and using logic to address work-related issues and problems.
  • Ability to organize, multi-task, plan, set priorities and exercise good judgment in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision while maintaining strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and in team settings.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across all levels of HFRM.
  • Demonstrate poise, tact and diplomacy with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information and situations.

Physical Demands: 
  • Twist and turn moves.
  • Squatting.
  • Read computer screens and mail, email, talk on the phone.
  • Ability to unpack and move supplies up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment: 
  • Professional and deadline-oriented environment.
  • Interaction with staff and customers.
  • Exposure to manufacturing environment which includes extreme heat in the summer and cold in the winter, dust and exposure to moving mechanical parts.
