The Machinist – CNC sets up and operates computer numeric control (CNC) machines to fabricate metallic and non-metallic parts.

Essential Job Functions include, but not limited to:
  • Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece.
  • Measures, marks and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining.
  • Selects, aligns and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders and shapers.
  • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow and depth and angle of cut or enters commands to retrieve input or edit computerized machine control media.
  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
  • Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications using precision measuring tools.
  • Knowledge of materials, availability, general characteristics, statics and stresses, machinability, heat treating and stress relieving procedures.
  • Performs CNC programming and CAM tasks.
  • Read machine dial gauges, blueprints and precision measuring instruments.
  • Monitor machine sounds and identify and diagnose changes in order to take appropriate action.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Job Qualifications:
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Two (2) year technical degree is preferred.
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of NC controls, CAD CAM software, Microsoft Windows.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, present information and answer questions clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing, with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to analyze data or information by identifying the underlying principles, reasons or facts of information and using logic to address work-related issues and problems.
  • Ability to organize, multi-task, plan, set priorities and exercise good judgment in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision while maintaining strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and in team settings.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across all levels of HFRM.
  • Demonstrate poise, tact and diplomacy with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information and situations.


Physical Demands:

  • Ability to unpack and move supplies up to 50 pounds.
