Primary Accountabilities:
The Associate Executive Director ensures the smooth and effective functioning of Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Store Association of Kansas (“PMCA”) by remaining up-to-date with the compliance of rules and regulations, and facilitating lobbying and regulatory responsibilities. This position is also responsible for developing and implementing programs, projects and activities designed to increase and retain membership at PMCA.
 
Major Duties:
  • Supports the Executive Director with daily responsibilities.
  • Develops legislative strategy and coordinates all aspects of legislative representation.
  • Facilitates events with legislators so they fully understand PMCA’s industry.
  • Develops and maintains working relationships with PMCA’s personnel, business partners, industry leaders, and state legislators.
  • Monitors and reports all legislative decisions affecting the industry to the Executive Director.
  • Develops all communications products provided by PMCA and affiliated organizations including but not limited to:  print and electronic newsletters, website, news releases, marketing brochures and collateral, annual reports and PowerPoint presentations.
  • Assists with social media and website management.
  • Builds and maintains a successful working relationship with news media.
  • Reports to the Board regarding communications activities.
  • Lobbies for the decisions affecting the industry at the state legislature.
  • Drives revenue generation through membership sales and retention.
  • Actively develops and identifies prospective companies who are good candidates for membership with the PMCA.
  • Develops and implements programs, projects and activities designed to consistently elevate the perceived value of the PMCA.
  • Interacts on an on-going basis with a broad spectrum of the membership to: determine satisfaction levels; suggest new services and programs to maintain or increase member satisfaction levels; and address any member attrition concerns.
  • Travels to current and prospective member locations to ensure total client satisfaction and to increase PMCA visibility through direct sales, cold calling and business-to-business marketing visits.
  • Works with the Executive Director and Board on member marketing enhancements.
  • Always represents PMCA professionally and positively.
  • Works collaboratively with the Executive Director to gather data for meetings and presentations.
  • Maintains knowledge of all aspects of PMCA and each profit center.
  • Works collaboratively with PMCA staff to build and maintain a strong team environment to accomplish the tasks necessary to serve and support the goals of PMCA.
  • Collaborates with Eastern Kansas Oil and Gas Association (“EKOGA”) by performing the following:
    • Provides associate management and lobbying assistance;
    • Coordinates meeting and updates databases; and/or
    • Interacts with the board and provides further assistance as requested.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
 
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent work experience.
  • Five (5) years of professional work experience required.
  • Familiarity with legislative process or experience in lobbying required.
  • Computer experience including QuickBooks and Microsoft Office Software (MS Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint) is required.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally through both verbal and written skills.
  • Ability to present effectively in large and small group settings.
  • Ability to organize, multi-task, plan and set priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work independently and in team settings.
  • Ability to effectively deal with both internal and external customers.
  • Ability to think critically and use logic and reasoning to identify alternative solutions, conclusions and approaches to problems.
  • Ability to or willingness to learn how to effectively utilize social media.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across all levels of PMCA.
  • Demonstrate poise, tact and diplomacy with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information and situations.
  • Must have a reliable mode of transportation and the ability to run errands during work hours (mileage reimbursement provided).
  • Frequent regional, national and international travel required, including overnight travel; valid driver’s license and passport required.
 
Physical Demands:
  • Ability to read computer screens and email, mail and talk on the phone.
  • Ability to lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
  • Ability to travel to client and business locations, as needed.
  • Ability to navigate government buildings and attend events at the State Capitol.
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends and attend events required.
