Primary Accountabilities:
The Communications Coordinator is responsible for serving as a liaison between the Kansas Optometric Association (“KOA”) and our stakeholders, providers, and outside constituents. The Communications Coordinator is responsible for developing and maintaining consistent media, messaging, and outreach across all communication mediums to enhance the mission, public image, and increase provider engagement with the activities of KOA. 
Major Duties:
  • Serves as the first point of contact for KOA in regard to incoming phone calls as well as walk-in traffic.
  • Answers telephone calls in a prompt, courteous and efficient manner and provides employees, members of KOA and outside constituents with excellent customer service.
  • Plans, develops and implements marketing strategies and public relations activities both internally and externally which support KOA’s goals and objectives.
  • Oversees the editorial direction, design, production and distribution of all KOA publications.
  • Coordinates media interest and ensures regular contact with target media including responding to media requests.
  • Coordinates communication via multiple mediums with outside constituents, including schools and staff, among others.
  • Assists with member communications, including print and electronic communications.
  • Monitors, recommends, and provides updated content, design, and general management of KOA’s website as a public media outlet, including the use of business social media techniques (Facebook, blogs, twitter, etc.), using a content management system.
  • Attends KOA meetings to maintain awareness of internal and external activities and make suggestions for enhancement to outreach and services through communication methods.
  • Participates as a liaison, organizer, or presenter in outreach events involving providers, stakeholders, constituents and beneficiaries of KOA.
  • Ensures compliance with various and specific branding guidelines and expectations.
  • Maintains knowledge of current media trends including Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and YouTube.
  • Represents KOA in the community by participating in community events to help build a positive image and strong relationships.
  • Assists with preparations and staffing for KOA events.  

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field required.
  • Experience and a demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, Desktop Publishing and all social media platforms required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including comfort and experience with public speaking.
  • Interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with internal and external constituents.
  • Strong attention to accuracy and detail required.
