Job Summary:
The Senior Purchasing Agent manages strategic customer and supplier relationships, maintaining competitive advantages and facilitating product shipment and delivery through strong sales and communication skills.  This position will be located at our offices in Bern, Kansas.
  • Assist with sourcing and procuring ingredients for feed mill operations at Lortscher Animal Nutrition Inc.
  • Proactive development and coverage of existing sales and supplier accounts and development of prospective accounts.
  • Obtaining market knowledge and insight through continuous communication with product suppliers, customers, and transportation vendors.
  • Coordinate in-bound ingredient deliveries with production staff including Plant Manager, Warehouse Manager, and Shift Supervisors for just-in-time inventory replenishment.
  • Negotiate ingredient contracts with key suppliers to benefit LANI, as well as, customers.
  • Strategic prospecting to identify and seek out new business that would profitably enhance company assets
  • Develops a clear understanding of local, national, world market, and trends.
  • Price discover and bid/offer maintenance to enhance risk management and pricing.
  • Understands and has strict adherence to corporate compliance policies, safety systems, and programs.

Job Requirements:
  • BS Degree in Agriculture or Business Administration.  
  • Experience with commodity merchandising in the Pet food Industry is DESIRED.
  • Strong organization, communication and negotiation skills.
  • Proven ability to manage effectively within a team based work environment.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with end-users, suppliers, and internal customers.
  • Portrays a positive image of the company and self when interacting with customers and colleagues.
  • Computer competent with demonstrated ability in the use of a database and Microsoft Office Products.
  • Positive, self-motivated.
  • Individual must be committed to corporate ethics policies and safety programs.
