Primary Accountabilities:
The position of Accounting Manager impacts the financial management and employee relations of Easterseals Capper Foundation (“ESCF”) as measured by the accomplishment of strategic, fiscal and operations objectives. This position is responsible for maintaining a complete and systematic set of records of financial transactions of ESCF and managing the preparation and documentation of staff payroll and related employee benefits. Additionally, the Accounting Manager is responsible for employee orientation and accurate record keeping of employment requirements, staff credentials and accrued benefits.
 
Major Duties:
Financial Management
  • Records the monthly financial transactions of ESCF. Prepares cash, investment and other account reconciliations on a monthly basis. Assists with the creation of financial statements and reports.
  • Responsible for the weekly processing of accounts payable invoices and checks. Ensures proper month end posting of accounts payable activity into the general ledger.
  • Maintains the operating account checkbook and petty cash fund.
  • Records daily deposit activity and pediatric accounts receivable into the Raintree and general ledger systems.
  • Assists Executive President and CFO in the preparation of annual audit work papers and other reports or analysis requested.
 
Payroll & Human Resources
  • Responsible for the preparation of bi-weekly payroll and related monthly expense and withholding requisitions, journal entries and deposits. Maintains employee records in the payroll system to ensure accuracy of payroll, demographic and benefit information. Manages all payroll and benefits functions in coordination with the Operations Directors, Adult Services and Human Resources Director.        
  • Meets with new staff for personnel orientation and processes documentation for employment, payroll, benefit and licensing requirements.
  • Responds to requests for employment verification and staff inquiries regarding payroll and benefits.
  • Manages annual workers compensation insurance premium audit. Files accident reports and workers compensation with insurance carrier. Manages preparation of illness & injury reporting, as required.
  • Completes state and federal surveys of employment and compensation data.
 
Administrative
  • Plans, organizes, schedules, supervises, and evaluates the work of administrative support staff, as assigned within the department.
  • Oversees the daily functions of the business office to include mail processing, office supplies, copier & fax operations and front desk coverage.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field required.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in payroll, general accounting and financial reporting. Supervision experience preferred.
  • Extensive use of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel and Outlook), computerized general accounting, and payroll programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting procedures and practices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of payroll procedures and practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to make intermediate level decisions affecting payroll and financial accounting systems.
  • Ability to analyze data or information by identifying the underlying principles, reasons or facts and to apply strong attention to detail in work performed.
  • Demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information and situations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with staff, clients and the business community.
  • Ability to organize, plan, set priorities with minimal supervision and effectively handle multiple projects concurrently.
  • Works collaboratively with ESCF staff to build and maintain a strong team environment to accomplish the tasks necessary to serve and support the goals of ESCF.
  • Ability to effectively work in a high pressure, fast-paced environment and be held accountable for results.
  • Ability to demonstrate conduct conforming to a set of values and accepted standards. 
 
Physical Demands:
