Job Title: Research Scientist - Environmental Chemistry

To provide competitive, independent, investigative research and product development in: crop production; crop protection; food quality; environmental preservation, product stewardship, genetics and seeds.

Essential duties for assigned field station to include:
  • Perform analytical studies utilizing LCMSMS which determine the concentration of analytes in a variety of biological matrices (i.e., plant and animal tissues), environmental matrices (i.e., soils, waters, and air), as well as other materials to monitor potential human exposures.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform study responsibilities with no direct supervision and ability to handle complex research-based projects and/or projects to develop new services.
  • Has a proven record of developing or improving LCMSMS residue analytical methods in a variety of biological matrices (i.e., plant and animal tissues), environmental matrices (i.e., soils, waters, and air), as well as other materials to monitor potential human exposures.
  • Routinely serves as a Principal Investigator or Study Director on both routine and complex residue studies based upon demonstrated understanding and proficiency.
  • Defends the conduct of the study if challenged by a regulatory authority or other external customer.
  • Comply with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), study protocols, and company SOP’s as applicable to the assignments.
  • Routinely communicates with Sponsors during studies ensuring timely study updates.
  • Experienced in the interpretation and statistical evaluation of data.
  • Prepares and/or assists in the preparation of reports.
  • Performs and/or ensures accurate documentation of all laboratory tasks which includes study records, daily logs and equipment notebooks.
  • Exhibit proficiency with operating all standard lab equipment (e.g., centrifuges, pipettes, balances, and pH meters) and be able to train others in proper use.
  • May serve as Responsible Individual (RI) for analytical instrumentation and also provide training and technical trouble- shooting on analytical instrumentation.
  • May prepare chemical standards and/or samples for extraction and analysis.
  • Maintain awareness of new developments in the relevant sciences and of changes in regulatory guidelines and requirements related to agrochemical research and registration, as well as participating in scientific and regulatory groups focused on the development and refinement of testing guidelines and providing input to regulatory authorities on regulations.
  • Will be assigned complex research-based projects, regulatory efforts, and/or project to develop new services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Team Lead, Manager, Director or designee.

  • Education – Bachelor, Master’s, or PhD degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry, highly preferred.
  • Work Experience – Bachelor degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry +8 years’ experience; and/or Master degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry + 5 years of relevant experience; PhD  in Chemistry or Biochemistry with 2+ years’ experience, highly preferred.
  • Skills/Proficiency:
    • 5+ years direct or indirect experience with Principal Investigator (PI) and/or Study Director duties, preferred.
    • Advanced knowledge of data processing with minimal supervision; knowledge in method development and instrument trouble shooting.
    • Working knowledge with hardware and/or software experience with LC - MS/MS;  GC - MS/MS; LC - MS; GC - MS instrumentation, required.
    • Demonstrated level of independence in operating instrumentation, required.
  • Computer Skills – Proficient computer skills with most current database and software applications needed.
  • Physical Requirements – Walk, stand 20 to 40% of the time, squat, bend, kneel, climb, push, pull, use hands; reach with hands and arms overhead; able to communicate effectively in team and/or one-on-one conversations.
  • Language Requirements – Able to read, write, and communicate in English fluently while performing the job duties which require this ability.
