Mission

To provide competitive, independent, investigative research and product development in:  crop production; crop protection; food quality; environmental preservation, product stewardship, genetics and seeds.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the Associate, Research, or Senior Research Biologist to develop, conduct, evaluate, and report various field research programs in his or her designated field station location in the U.S.  Able to operate farm equipment and implements in the preparation and maintenance of research plots. 
  • Participate as a team member in all field station programs which consists of laboratory, greenhouse, and field trials.  Tasks include assistance with understanding field protocols and working with Associate and/or Research Biologist to ensure proper communication, excellence in quality, and on-time delivery of project deadlines.
  • Assist the Associate and/or Research Biologist in performing all tasks required for each research trial, including site selection, planting of test crops, calibration of spray equipment, making pesticide and fertilizer applications, collecting crop and soil samples, and conducting evaluations of crops and pests.
  • Understand the GLP standards and how they apply to diverse types of regulated studies.
  • Be accountable for following GLP standards, SOP’s, and methods to ensure that the data is precise and accurate.
  • Be able to clearly document all research activity both on the computer and in paper notebooks.
  • Assist the Associate and/or Research Biologist to inspect/monitor each GLP study to ensure the integrity of the study and determine that no deviations from approved protocols or Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) were made without proper authorization and documentation.
  • All other duties as assigned by Field Station Team Lead and/or Station Manager.   
  • Schedule is determined based on business needs which may include week-ends and/or Holidays.

Qualifications

  • Education – Bachelor's degree in agricultural science related field , required
  • Work Experience –   0 to 3+ years related agricultural work experience AND post college graduation experience in the agricultural sciences (knowledge of plant protection, plant pathology, weed science, pesticide residue, agronomy, seed / traits is desirable) – highly preferred
  • Skills/Proficiencies – Proficiency with complex analysis; interpretation of data;  and customer services skills required
  • Computer Skills – Proficient computer skills with most current spreadsheet, database and word processing applications needed.
  • Physical Requirements
    • Able to work in highly regulated, high pace environment.
    • Capable of wearing a respirator and able to perform work duties in all day (in excess of 8 hours) exposure to heat, sun, dust, and all weather conditions associated with outdoor, field research work.
    • Must be able to walk, stand 50 to 80% of the time, squat, bend, kneel, climb, push, pull, use hands; reach with hands and arms overhead; speak and hear effectively in team and/or one-on-one conversations. 
    • Must be able to climb ladders, lift/move ≥ 50 to 60 pounds with proper ergonomics and use of assistance as needed (e.g., other people, carts, pallet jack, etc...)
    • For Terrestrial:  Must be able to work outdoors in extreme conditions and at times perform strenuous labor including construction of test systems, field maintenance and working with bees.
  • Language Requirements – Able to read, write, and communicate in English fluently, or with necessary assistance, ONLY while performing the job duties which require this ability
