Position Title: Distribution Intern
Job Classification: Non-exempt, Temporary
Work Schedule: Tuesday – Thursday, approx. 30 hours per week
Location: Onsite (Holton, KS)
 
Distribution Internship Overview:
The Distribution Internship involves learning and completing multiple tasks involving inventory management, order processing, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality procedures. The internship program runs from early June through the mid-August each year. Work days will be Tuesday – Thursday and approx. 30 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Receiving and Processing Shipments: Inspect incoming deliveries, check for damage, and verify compliance with company standards.
  • Inventory Management: Assist with tracking stock levels, organizing products, and maintaining accurate records, databases, and filing systems.
  • Order Fulfillment: Participate in picking, packing, and preparing shipments for dispatch.
  • Warehouse Operations: Assist with various tasks like loading and unloading trucks, organizing the warehouse, and ensuring efficient workflow.
  • Documentation and Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of inventory, shipments, and other relevant information.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Communicate with suppliers, clients, and internal teams to ensure seamless operations.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure compliance with safety regulations and procedures, and participate in training programs.
  • Clerical Support: Provide basic office and clerical support to the warehouse team.
  • Training and Development: Gain hands-on experience in various warehouse departments, including order fulfillment, shipping, and inventory control.
  • Special Projects: Work on special projects with a mentor's support.
  • Process Improvement: Assist with identifying and implementing improvements in warehouse processes.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Must be a high school graduate and at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have good attendance record and reliable transportation.
  • Basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Strong attention to detail, strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
  • Physical ability to lift and move goods.
  • A willingness to learn and adapt to new situations.

Major Duties:
  • Check shipments for accuracy and report any damage or discrepancies.
  • Update inventory
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the warehouse.
  • Operate warehouse equipment (e.g., pallet jacks, forklifts if certified).
  • Assist with cycle counts and physical inventory.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and guidelines.
Required Qualifications:
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Skills and Competencies:
    • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
    • Basic computer skills (experience with inventory systems a plus).
    • Ability to lift and move heavy items (up to 50 lbs).
    • Good communication and teamwork abilities.
Physical Demands:
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer.
  • Ability to bend, reach, twist, and grip items while working at a desk.
  • Ability to lift up to twenty-five (50) pounds occasionally.
Work Environment:
  • Warehouse environment with potential exposure to varying temperatures.
  • Standing, walking, and lifting throughout the shift.
  • Use of standard warehouse equipment and tools.
