The Therapist provides for the safety, stability, and well-being of children and families by delivering and coordinating culturally competent therapeutic and case management services that are responsive to the unique needs of the family. This is a full-time, non-exempt position, with the ability to be in Mission, Kansas or Lawrence, Kansas. Successful candidates are relationship and mission driven. By meeting families where they are today and working together to creatively remove barriers, therapists strive to keep families together. Being a DCCCA therapist is being a champion for children.
The Therapist is a member of DCCCA's Family Preservation Services (FPS) team. Family Preservation provides intensive in-home services and case management services to families who have one or more children at risk of out-of-home placement or who will be at risk of out-of-home placement at birth.

Essential Functions:
  • Provides for the safety, stability and well-being of children and families during the referral period
  • Completes and analyzes initial and on-going family assessments related to safety, stability and well-being, including mental health, substance abuse, education, emotional, social and physical well-being, parenting and parent-child relationships
  • Utilizes assessments to develop the case plan in partnership with child/ren and family; make community referrals as necessary
  • Delivers and coordinates culturally competent therapeutic and case management services to children and families consistent with the evidence-based practice models
  • Builds therapeutic relationships for conflictual relationships, including domestic violence and parent child conflicts, crisis intervention and stabilization
  • Provides education, and/or intervention, related to sexual abuse, domestic violence, and substance abuse prevention
  • Assesses child safety and risk, initially and ongoing, assisting the family in developing a behaviorally specific safety plan and monitoring for child safety
  • Meets with the family in the home weekly and meets monthly with each child individually
  • Available to the family 24 hours per day, 7 days per week to mitigate immediate child safety concerns and stabilize family crisis and assess the family’s needs
Education and Licenses:
  • Master's degree in social work or human services field, required
  • Master's level licensure with the Kansas BSRB, required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Prior work, including practicum hours, in behavioral health or children and family services, required
  • Experience with addictions treatment, helpful but not required
  • Valid driver's license and ability to maintain a good driving record
  • Successful completion of pre-employment background checks, references, fingerprinting, and drug screening
