The Kansas Pharmacists Association (KPhA) is the leading voice for pharmacy professionals in Kansas, advocating for the profession, providing education, and fostering connections across pharmacy and adjacent healthcare industries. KPhA also oversees the Kansas Pharmacy Foundation (KPF), which supports pharmacy-related initiatives through grants, education, and charitable programs.
Position Overview
The Executive Director (ED) serves as the chief executive officer of KPhA and KPF, responsible for leadership, financial oversight, and operational management. This role requires strong association management skills, financial expertise, knowledge of government affairs, and member engagement experience.
The ED will be responsible for:
- Executing KPhA’s strategic plan and ensuring measurable progress on key objectives.
- Overseeing KPhA’s quarterly board meetings and providing regular updates on association initiatives.
- Managing the Kansas Pharmacy Foundation (KPF), including serving as corporate secretary at monthly board meetings, financial oversight, fundraising, and building maintenance.
- Leading KPhA committees (Education, Engagement, Government Affairs, Professional Affairs, and Practice Advancement).
- Convening the Executive & Finance Committees between board meetings for financial and operational decision-making.
- Planning and executing KPhA’s Annual Meeting in August alongside staff.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Governance
- Provide strategic leadership to KPhA and KPF, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- Execute KPhA’s strategic plan and work with the Board to track progress.
- Oversee KPhA’s quarterly board meetings, ensuring productive discussions and implementation of board directives.
- Facilitate regular meetings with Executive and Finance Committees to guide association decision-making.
Kansas Pharmacy Foundation (KPF) Management
- Serve as Executive Director of KPF, overseeing monthly board meetings, financial management, fundraising, and building maintenance.
- Work with the foundation board to develop and implement programs that support pharmacy practice advancement, leadership and community health initiatives.
Financial Oversight & Grants
- Develop and manage the annual budgets for KPhA and KPF, ensuring financial sustainability.
- Monitor financial performance and ensure compliance with fiscal policies and grant requirements.
- Identify, secure, and manage grants that support KPhA’s initiatives.
Government Affairs & Advocacy
- Work with lobbyists and board members to shape and promote pharmacy-related legislation in Kansas.
- Stay informed on state and federal legislative issues affecting the pharmacy profession.
- Build and maintain relationships with policymakers, regulatory agencies, and healthcare stakeholders.
Education, Member Engagement & Annual Meeting Oversight
- Oversee the development of continuing education programs for members.
- Strengthen member engagement and networking within the pharmacy and healthcare industries.
- Lead the planning and execution of KPhA’s Annual Meeting in August, ensuring a high-quality experience for members and industry partners.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (MBA, MPA, PharmD, or JD) preferred.
- Experience in association management, healthcare leadership, or a related field.
- Strong financial acumen, including budgeting and grant management experience.
- Knowledge of government affairs, legislative processes, and advocacy strategies.
- Proven leadership in executing strategic plans and managing board relations.
- Excellent communication, relationship-building, and team leadership skills.
